Bland!

Bland!

Many people suffer great difficulty transitioning to a Whole Food Plant Based diet because it is perceived as too bland.  It feels like a terrible sacrifice!

We have five traditionally recognized senses: hearing, vision, touch, smell and taste.  Interestingly, each of these senses are adjustable.  The perception automatically scales to an equilibrium based on an average level of stimulation.

PlantPure Pods Community Grassroots Activism Invites You!

PlantPure Pods Community Grassroots Activism Invites You!
Many of you may remember my blog about the movie PlantPure Nation. If not here is the bottom line in just three words: Go See It!. And, after you see the movie you will be invited to become a part of their grassroots activism through joining, or even organizing, one of their PlantPure Pods. Our local PlantPure Pod in Austin Texas is having their first major organizational meeting this Sunday January 10, 2016 at noon so it is on my mind. (Not to mention that one of the organizers sent me a gentle Facebook messenger nudge this morning asking to help get the word out) We aso previously published a blog about this movie on DrCarney.com inviting you to Be a Part of the Plant-Based Natio...

Show Me the Health Science Research Summaries

Show Me the Health Science Research Summaries
How many times have we had somebody tell us that there is NO SCIENCE to support the adoption of a plant based diet? More times than we can count! Have you been told the same thing? Of course, you and I both know that just the opposite is true. There is an abundance of good scientific evidence to support not only eating a Whole-Foods Plant-Based Starch-Smart® diet but also the cessation from the consumption of all forms of meat, oil, dairy, eggs, refined foods and the narcotic combinations of food like substances that comprise the MODERN diet!  Finding the good studies can be time consuming though. This is where you come in. We need your help and invite you to join in the search fo...

Power to Achieve Your New Year's Resolutions

Power to Achieve Your New Year's Resolutions

Every year I make the same New Year's Resolution and every year I fail. Why? Could it be that resolutions are worthless? Or, could there be a problem with my particular resolution? Well, in this case I invite you to be the judge. Here is my yearly resolution: "My new year's resolution this year is to make sure to not make any new year's resolutions". This should be easily attainable, right? Or, might I be asking just a bit too much? All jesting aside, while that resolution is simply not attainable many of our desired resolutions are completely within reach. So why do we constantly see other people, including ourselves, unable to succeed with these resolutions? I won't attempt to answer this question for everybody but would like to offer help, and hope, for those whose resolutions involve healthy food choices.

Introducing the Protective Diet Forum

Introducing the Protective Diet Forum
Before even starting I would like to disclaim that we are NOT a part of the Protective Diet Forum. And, the Protective Diet Forum is not a part of the Starch-Smart System. They operate an Online Community for plant based nutrition and we also operate an Online Community for plant based nutrition. Some of the things that they promote, we do not promote! Some of the things that we promote, they do not promote!   So, why am I here writing to you about them? Because, we just created a page at DrCarney.com to introduce you to them. They are a "Mom and Pop" shop with a Story to Tell and an impressive offering. These folks look more like comrades then competitors! Please visit ...

New Kids on the Block: The New Health Club

New Kids on the Block: The New Health Club
One of our hopes for the Starch-Smart System Social Site (can you say Sally sold seashells by the seashore?) is to share resources that we find online. This week we were introduced to a couple who have started a new plant-based site which can best be described as a Plant-based Portal and Information Center. They have put a lot of work into gathering and organizing resources and I believe that the best is yet to come for them. Formost is some improvements in their web technology. One of the founders of this site also signed up today as members on the Starch-Smart Social Site. So, this post is to introduce them and their site.  The name of their site is The New Health Club and it is...

Where there is life, there is hope!

Where there is life, there is hope!
So there I was, plugging along in my low-fat vegan lifestyle. Everything is going fine, although I will admit that I was feeling a little lonely for more flesh-and-blood vegans (in addition to my lovely facebook vegan friends!). In the past, hubby & I would go into the city once per month to socialize in a hospitable group, but having to stay overnight on someone’s sofa bed was becoming a little onerous. So we stopped doing that, and the ensuing sense of isolation of which I previously wrote began to build. Fast forward a number of years. Suddenly, out of the blue, without any warning, a VEGAN food column appears in our little small town local paper! In it, the author says she plans to s...
