Every year I make the same New Year's Resolution and every year I fail. Why? Could it be that resolutions are worthless? Or, could there be a problem with my particular resolution? Well, in this case I invite you to be the judge. Here is my yearly resolution: "My new year's resolution this year is to make sure to not make any new year's resolutions". This should be easily attainable, right? Or, might I be asking just a bit too much? All jesting aside, while that resolution is simply not attainable many of our desired resolutions are completely within reach. So why do we constantly see other people, including ourselves, unable to succeed with these resolutions? I won't attempt to answer this question for everybody but would like to offer help, and hope, for those whose resolutions involve healthy food choices.
The good news is that if our New Year's Resolutions revolve around determining not to eat foods that are unhealthy, then there is a clear path to success! We must first start with understanding our own personal food choice motivations. We need to understand Why We Do What We Do? The answer to this common dilemma is brought to light by Linda Carney, MD in her video presentation about Controlling Cravings.
Do you sometimes binge on unhealthy foods? Would you like to know which foods prevent binges? Do you sometimes feel addicted to unhealthy foods? Would you like to know which foods act like drugs? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then I would like to assure you that knowledge is power. There is help for you, from science!
I suspect we all agree that most people, including ourselves, do not intentionally sets out to cause harm to ourselves! If any of your food choice behaviors are harming you, then please watch this video. It is available for Purchase as a DVD or you can Rent or Buy it as Streaming Media. We would like to hear from you after you have watched the video. We also invite you to join our helpful, sharing plant-based Starch-Smart® Community for ongoing discussions!
I wish you and all your loved ones the very best in the coming New Year!
