I saw a recent Science News Magazine article (https://www.sciencenews.org/article/treat-heart-start-gut?tgt=nr) regarding a new drug that is being developed to prevent the heart damaging effects of eating meat. Full text here: http://www.cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092-8674(15)01574-3.
The article explains that animal sourced foods, including meat, eggs and high-fat dairy products contain high levels of choline, phosphatidylcholine and carnitine-trimethylamine. Blood levels of these chemicals are associated with prevalent atherosclerotic heart disease and incident major adverse cardiac events.
I find it interesting that definitive damaging effects of eating meat are revealed, yet there is no mention or consideration that the issue would be rendered moot simply by not eating meat.
