"Finally, patients with thyroid disease will need to be careful when consuming plants that make your thyroid gland bigger (goiterogenic) -- such as soy, raw cruciferous vegetables (i.e. broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and kale) sweet potatoes and corn. These patients should be informed that cooking these vegetables inactivates the goitrogens, which leads to underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism)."

Does this mean that I should eat (or should have been eating!) raw soy, cruciferous vegetables, sweet potatoes, and corn so as not to require hypothyroid hormones?

That is a great question. Some of it is not accurate. We hear this all the time. The true cause of thyroid disease is animal protein in the diet.
